Kaua'i

So, it seems like everyone is going to Hawaii. I've wanted to travel there for quite a while. Embarassingly enough, I remember that the first time I became interested in Hawaii as a travel destination was after watching a Jon & Kate Plus Eight episode. Yes, I watched that. Moving on...

Currently, I'm exploring the island of Kaua'i. It is apparently the called "The Garden Isle" because of its many lush rainforests that have resulted from centuries of growth and breathtaking waterfalls. The island is so rugged that some portions of it are only accessible via sea or air. There are plenty of things to do on the island related to adventure, such as hiking the 11-mile Kalalau trail on the North Shore or hiking Waimea Canyon or visiting Kilauea Point's lighthouse.

Fern Grotto on the East side is definitely a "must visit." In order to get to the grotto, you have to take a riverboat on the Wailua river. The grotto in filled with tropic hanging ferns and is cooled by the mists of a waterfall. There was once a time when the area was off-limits, adding to the mystique of the place. Also, toursits can go mountain tubing on the East side!
